My little town with it's traditions

BBC - Cornwall - Villages story Hurling at St Columb

The link tells you about another years event but the principle is the same every year.
This great tradition has not been stopped by the Health and Saftey brigade, although it is dangerous to participants and onlookers alike. As you can see everything is boarded up , to any passer by you would think we lived in a really dodgy area !! We got given the silver ball to hold the very first year we were here it is supposed to bring good luck. Good luck to everyone taking part be it Town or Country in 2009

Tricia: It is good fun our next door neighbours sons always take part, think you have to be a bit tougher to take part which we are not LOL great prestige is given to the winner i believe

Yes, it does seem rather dangerous, doesn't it, but long may the 'do-gooders' stay away and leave you locals to your fun!

For years I lived not far away, but never plucked up the courage to come and watch, even though I probably qualified as 'country'.
